Genetics and Genomics

A genetics major wears gloves and works in a lab, with close oversight by a professor.

The genetics major at Michigan State University offers a strong scientific foundation with a focused emphasis on genetics and genomics. In this program, you’ll study how genes function, how they’re inherited and how they influence the traits of organisms—from molecular systems to populations.

While the core curriculum provides broad training in biological and physical sciences, you’ll also have flexibility to explore your interests through elective courses within the field.
